911³Ō¹Ļās Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College will host the 14th annual Honors College Symposium and Research Day on Friday, April 8.
911³Ō¹Ļās Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College will host the 14th annual Honors College Symposium and Research Day on Friday, April 8, from 1 to 4 p.m., in the AD Auditorium at 911³Ō¹Ļās John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter. The event is free and open to the public.Ā
The Collegeās student academic achievement will be celebrated, with more than 100 visual art and research project displays spanning a variety of subject areas.
This yearās featured Chastain Guest Lecturer is Michael Blakey, Ph. D., national endowment for the humanities professor of William & Mary. Ā Blakeyās address, titled āActivist Science at New Yorkās African Burial Ground,ā will focus on his New York African Burial Ground Project that studied the site where an estimated10- to 20,000 people of African descent were buried in the 18th century.
āHaving Dr. Blakey, a leading anthropologist and activist, as this yearās Chastain Guest Lecturer is a welcomed chance to introduce our students to a thought provoking topic and encourage personal growth,ā said Jeffrey Buller, Ph.D., dean of the Wilkes Honors College. āWe hope the community also joins us for the symposium showcasing our studentsā academic success.ā
The symposium will showcase Wilkes Honors College studentsā thesis and abstracts, from research of Atlantic reefs to analysis of small-molecule modulators. Student presentations will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. in the Administration (AD) and Student Resources (SR) buildings.
