Recognizing Inventors at 911³Ô¹Ï

The National Academy of Inventors Chapter at 911³Ô¹Ï Introduces Eight New Members

The Office of Technology Development recently hosted the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) chapter luncheon to recognize the efforts and accomplishments of 911³Ô¹Ï’s chapter members.

The NAI chapter at 911³Ô¹Ï is one of more than 50 university chapters across the country. It was established to recognize inventors from each college for their success in research and commercialization, and to enhance the visibility of scientific innovation at 911³Ô¹Ï.

Collectively, the group of 24 911³Ô¹Ï researchers submitted 16 invention disclosures in the past year, resulting in the filing of 26 patent applications. They are also named inventors on more than 142 issued patents.

Due to the pandemic, the newest chapter members did not have the opportunity to be publicly recognized by the university community until the luncheon. Here’s a look at the chapter’s eight newest members:

  • Waseem Asghar, Ph.D., associate professor, College of Engineering and Computer Science
  • Esther Guzmán, Ph.D., associate research professor, 911³Ô¹Ï Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute
  • Alberto Haces, Ph.D., senior instructor, Charles E. Schmidt College of Science
  • Jason Hallstrom, Ph.D., executive director of 911³Ô¹Ï Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering, College of Engineering and Computer Science
  • Salvatore Lepore, Ph.D., professor, Charles E. Schmidt College of Science
  • Shirley Pomponi, Ph.D., research professor, 911³Ô¹Ï Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute
  • Lawrence Toll, Ph.D., professor, Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine
  • Henriette van Praag, Ph.D., associate professor, Charles E. Schmidt College of Science

The following chapter members were also recognized for their inventions receiving issued patents or were licensed to industry last year:
